Once or twice a season, the Proms decamps from the Royal Albert Hall to a new venue; and last Saturday it was Southwark Cathedral. This ancient building was one that Shakespeare knew, and its gothic vaults resonated with the sound of two double-choir works by his Italian contemporary Palestrina, sung with balance and radiance by the BBC Singers under retiring conductor David Hill.
