“Here lies Raphael, by whom nature feared to be conquered in his lifetime, while on his death she feared dying with him,” reads Pietro Bembo’s florid inscription on the artist’s tomb in the Pantheon in Rome. With the quincentenary of Raphael’s death in 2020, the Vatican Museums have teamed up with Sky Italia on a state-of-the-art biopic of the artist, boasting the latest 3D and 4K technology. It follows the success of collaborations with Sky on 3D films of The Vatican Museums in 2014 and St Peter’s and the Papal Basilicas of Rome last year.
