In defence of Roman music

Marcus Taylor (The Tablet, 27 June) should get out more. Rather than "endless recitals of Vivaldi's Four Seasons", Rome offers rich and varied classical music programmes. Its three principal concert societies, the outstanding Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia (Musical Director: Antonio Pappano), the Accademia Filarmonica Romana, and the constantly resourceful Istituzione Universitaria dei Concerti, present some of the best classical music programming in Europe, often including premières by living composers. Get a (musical) life, Marcus!
