To celebrate its fiftieth anniversary, Manon returned to Covent Garden (to 8 March; live in cinemas nationwide from 7 February) with a rendition by the Royal Ballet that would have made the legendary choreographer Sir Kenneth MacMillan – who adapted it from Abbé Prévost’s novel L’Histoire du Chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut – proud.
