The Second Vatican Council
7 December, 1962
Sunday’s BBC programme from Rome about the Vatican Council, as this session draws to an end, was particularly interesting because the Council is not the easiest subject to report in the secular daily press. One sometimes feels that even a public knowing and feeling enthusiastic about this historic Council of the Church, may tend to feel that it is there for ever, and find the issues difficult to
distinguish.
So to see … on Sunday those long shots looking down from a great height upon scores and hundreds of bishops spilling out, as it were, upon the piazza as they left St Peter’s, at the end, one presumes, of a normal meeting, was a sharp reminder that here were men at work.
