The Sound of Music
27 march, 1965
Two hours and 52 minutes (excluding interval) is the running time of The Sound of Music (U certificate), so customers who like this kind of monster musical entertainment will certainly get their money’s worth. For the very small minority who may not know that this is yet another version of the Trapp Family Singers’ story, let me say that Julie Andrews plays – and utterly delightfully too – the novice who is sent from her convent to become temporary governess to seven motherless children and eventually marries their martinet of a father, who runs the entire establishment like a battleship. Christopher Plummer is Captain von Trapp, and I must admit that from time to time I found this set-to-partners between Mary Poppins and Hamlet a little unnerving.
