Saints are all around us

I couldn't agree more with Catherine Pepinster's statement regarding "honouring the ordinary who are extraordinary" (The Tablet, 5 February).

Speaking personally, I have three such "saints" in my life - the first being my maternal grandfather (Sebastian D'sa) who spent most of his twilight years in prayer. As young children, we would hear him pray daily for that gift of child-like innocence, praying also that no harm come to anyone. He supported my two brothers and me when we were orphaned during World War II.

The second is a missionary priest friend, the late Fr Paul Tablino, who worked tirelessly in the pitiless deserts of Northern Kenya for the pastoral nomads. And my last "saint" is our late Parish Priest (Fr Peter Arnold), whose very presence radiated peace.

In my book at least, these three individuals need no "canonization ceremony".

I call them saints and pray to them daily!
