In response to David Jones (The Tablet, 18 October) I am both the son and the husband of minister's wives.
When Margaret and I married 44 years ago, we were both determined that she had to be liberated from all expectations for her to be "The Minister's Wife".
This ambition was achieved no doubt, in part, because she was a practising Roman Catholic, but also by a determination on both our parts for her to shine in those areas of professional and church life to which she was called. Perhaps David Jones would have less cause to be concerned if all churches saw the wives and husbands of clergy as being Christian disciples in their own right.
