On the role of the laity

I read your article about well-educated, competent and open-minded Christians, being ignored by the church's hierarchy, some of whose members are obsessed by power and money. However, I was sad to read the final lines of your article. It is not the parish priests' title that needs to be removed, but rather those of a higher status. We need to change the shape of the pyramid.

I hope most of us well educated, etc. parishioners will take our parish priest to task if he does something wrong, but once this is sorted, and things are running smoothly, it will still be natural for us to use the title "Father" as a sign of respect for his special calling, a unique and valuable vocation for celebrating the Eucharist for us all.
