The procedure at the recent synod of bishops seems an improvement on previous ones. At least some young persons participated. But how many of the bishops there were already in regular contact with youth? Were young people’s views sought before the synod? I have the impression that in England many parishes make provisions for children up to their Confirmation. After that, are they left to make their own way, without much preparation for adult life? Does anyone point out that the Kingdom of God, as preached by Jesus, is a different concept from that of the Church? Local churches, if they are filled by the Holy Spirit, will embody and point to the Kingdom.
