Though I haven’t too much hair left on top I still have to get it cut occasionally, so at midday I left my desk and walked into town via the scenic route – a three-mile meander down the high-hedged Green Lane. But my mind wasn’t on the joys of young summer. Unseasonably chilly, the clouds were darkening. Shouldn’t I have brought an umbrella? Then there was the book I really ought to have finished writing by now.
