Peace is an attitude of mind and a way of living acquired through patient practice
 

A couple of weeks ago I was waiting at a train station when I was accosted by an earnest-looking young man. I must have looked like I needed some redeeming.

“Have you given your life to Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour?”
“As a matter of fact I have.”
“Do you speak in tongues?”
“Well, as an unreconstructed Catholic charismatic, I can, but I choose not to because I don’t find it a helpful form of communication.”
“How do you know that the Holy Spirit is active in your daily life?”
“I’m poor, chaste and obedient for Jesus Christ for the rest of my life, which I hope is a decent push in the right direction.”

I always find something worthwhile in you pieces and in this one I was very struck by your point about them listening to the Spirit. It’s true that we don’t often highlight this.
