While Alan Bennett’s Talking Heads monologues were on BBC TV in the 1980s, Radio 3 hosted an equally glittering set of soliloquies, written by Peter Barnes (1931-2004) for actors including Laurence Olivier, Alec Guinness, John Gielgud and Judi Dench.

Now Original Theatre, a digital platform that has been a stand-out performer in drama’s emergency migration online, has recorded – on the stage of the empty Theatre Royal Windsor – four of the 15 solos Barnes wrote.
