At the heart of the Sermon on the Mount there is a verse that in a certain way sums up the whole: “Seek first his reign and his justice, and all other things will be given to you as well” (Matthew 6:33)…This search gives the Christian life its raison d’être. Thus, in a precise way and with a scope that must be taken into account, Matthew gives us the very heart of the entire Bible: everything comes from God. God is the Holy One, the totally Other, the One whose “designs are unfathomable and [whose] ways are inscrutable…because from him and for him are all things” (Romans 11:33, 35).
