You need to know how not to worry, and to trust God. Most of us have worries, most of us go through periods of darkness, uncertainty, doubt. That is part of living. There was a time when I used to try to get rid of the anxieties and doubts, a time when I used to look for certainty. Then I realised: no, what matters is to trust God. Trusting God means throwing the whole thing into his hands.
CARDINAL BASIL HUME
FROM THE MYSTERY OF LOVE (HODDER & STOUGHTON, 1996)
Thanks be to thee, my Lord Jesus Christ,
for all the benefits thou hast given me,
for all the pains and insults thou hast borne for me.
O most merciful redeemer, friend and brother,
may I know thee more clearly,
love thee more dearly,
and follow thee more nearly,
day by day.
Amen.
