Monks from Pluscarden Abbey in Scotland are to re-enact a pilgrimage that first took place eight centuries ago.The 1230 Pluscarden Pilgrimage, which is planned for 2017, will celebrate the arrival in the north-east of Scotland of Valliscaulian monks, who came from Burgundy to found the monastery – a journey of some 1,300 miles. It is said that the secluded glen that houses Pluscarden so closely resembled the monks’ point of origin at Val des Choux that the monks, on arriving, knew their long journey was over.The present-day version sees that distance broken down into 12 separate legs, with pilgrims asked to raise money towards the restoration of the South Range at Pluscarden. A stone from the abbey will be carried all the way.The pilgrimage is the inspiration of Lt Col David B
