Refectory reflection


 
Some 144 years ago The Tablet, in the issue of 6 September 1871, noted the solemn consecration of the new church at Stanbrook Abbey at Callow End in Worcestershire. “Everything indeed was well done down to the minutest detail,” we wrote. “Bishops, priests, monks, nuns, walking in procession with the beautiful reliquary, looked as if they had stepped out from some old window or illumination.”That church was deconsecrated in 2009 when the nuns moved to their new home at Crief Farm in North Yorkshire. This weekend, on the anniversary, the community is due to celebrate the dedication of its new chapel, whose interior was designed by Fr Daniel McCarthy OSB and Fr James Leachman OSB.
