Another royal visit


 
Last month, the Queen travelled to Rome to meet Pope Francis and tomorrow it is the turn of her grandson Prince Harry to visit the Eternal City. The prince is travelling to Italy to commemorate the seventieth anniversary of the Second World War battle of Monte Cassino, around 80 miles south-east of Rome. There he will visit the Abbey of Monte Cassino, the first monastery established by St Benedict. Originally built in the sixth century, it was occupied by the Germans and destroyed by Allied bombing. It was subsequently restored after the war was over.During his travels, the prince will meet veterans of recent conflicts, some of whom will be taking part in London’s Invictus Games in?September, a sports event for wounded soldiers he launched earlier this year.
