An Ursuline nun from Sicily has won the final of the Italian version of television talent contest The Voice.
Sr Cristina, who shot to fame when she wowed judges with her performance, in full habit, of Alicia Keys hit “No one”, had a landslide victory, taking 60 per cent of the vote.
Her winning entry in the finals was an Italian song called Lungo la Riva, meaning "Along the shore".
Following her triumph, Sr Cristina thanked God for her victory and said "My presence here is not up to me, it's thanks to the man upstairs!", before closing the show by leading the audience and judges in reciting the Lord’s Prayer.
The 25-year-old has been offered a record contract with Universal Records but claimed she wanted to go back to her old life in a convent near Milan.
"I will go back to my priorities – prayer, waking up early in the morning, school service,” referring to her going into schools to teach children to sing.
Sr Cristina said she still defined herself as a "humble servant" and ascribed her sudden success to a "thirst for joy, for love, and a message that is beautiful and pure".
The nun, who performs in her habit, broke all You Tube records following her first appearance, with 31 million hits in just a week.
When she first appeared on the show she said she had been inspired to do so by Pope Francis, who has instructed nuns and priests to "come out" of their churches and convents and spread the word of God.
