Fisher stresses need for dialogue

SYDNEY’S Archbishop Anthony Fisher has told his Archdiocese’s annual Iftar dinner for the Muslim holy month of Ramadan that nowhere is exempt from violent attempts to create division, but that respectful dialogue between faiths was necessary for peace, writes Mark Brolly. He was speaking five days before the 3 June London terrorist attacks.  

Speaking at Mary MacKillop Place in North Sydney, where Australia’s first saint is buried, Archbishop Fisher told the audience – which included the Grand Mufti of Australia, Dr Ibrahim Abu Mohammed, and leaders of the Jewish, Buddhist and Hindu communities – that Popes Francis and Benedict XVI had spoken about the importance of dialogue.
