Dioceses prepare to close Holy Doors

Dioceses across England and Wales are preparing to close their Holy Doors to mark the end of the Jubilee Year of Mercy, writes Liz Dodd.

The Year comes to a conclusion on Sunday 20 November, when Pope Francis will close the Holy Door at St Peter’s Basilica in Rome. Most dioceses in England and Wales plan to mark the end of the Jubilee Year on the same Sunday including Arundel and Brighton, Birmingham, Liverpool, Salford, Shrewsbury, Wrexham and Norwich.

But Clifton, Northampton, Nottingham and Westminster will close their Holy Doors a week early, on Sunday 13 November.

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has been invited to preach at the service to mark the end of the Holy Year at Westminster Cathedral.
