Cardinal Nichols and Archbishop Welby to hold first live Facebook Q&A

The public will be able to participate in the live Q&A by posting questions in the comment thread

Archbishop Justin Welby and Cardinal Vincent Nichols will hold their first ever live Q&A on Facebook this week to discuss evangelisation.

The leaders of the Anglican and Catholic Church will take questions on the theme of prayer, unity and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ this Friday (27 May), using the social media platform founded by Mark Zuckerberg.

It is the latest in a long line of ecumenical activities bringing the two Churches together.

The public can participate in the live Q&A at 2.20pm UK time by posting questions in the comment thread, which will be answered by the clerics.

Questions so far have included: what can lay people do to promote Christian unity? Will the Church of England rejoin the Catholic communion? What are churches doing to ensure that young people are properly discipled?

Cardinal Nichols said the initiative, prompted by Welby, “goes to demonstrate the level of our cooperation and partnership”. A spokesman from Lambeth Palace said the Q&A shows "what it means to pray together as Anglicans and Catholics".

Last week Archbishop Welby held his first bible study live on the same social networking site.
