Climate change / Pilgrims push on to Paris through rain and storms

A GROUP of Christians have embarked on a 200-mile walk from London to Paris to coincide with the start of the UN climate change talks, writes Ellen Teague.

The 45 Christians from different denominations set out from St Martin-in-the-Fields, in Trafalgar Square, on 13 November, after a service led by the Bishop of Salisbury, Nick Holtam, the lead bishop on the environment for the Church of England. The walk is due to take two weeks.

Fr Martin Poulsom, Head of Theology at Heythrop College, joined the walk for the first three days, battling through mud and rain (pictured), and celebrated a special Mass for the victims of the Paris bombings. Upon arrival in Paris on 27 November the pilgrims will deliver petitions to Christiana Figueres, the diplomat leading the UN’s climate negotiations.
