Trump accused of racist ignorance

The Mexican hierarchy has published a critique of Donald Trump, saying the US presidential hopeful was ignorant and racist, writes Isabel de Bertodano.

In an editorial in their weekly newsletter, the bishops said they were disappointed that the Mexican Government had failed to respond to Mr Trump, the frontrunner to become the Republican Party candidate in 2016.

“This man is not only ignorant of international treaties on human rights but also represents the hatred, racism and ancestral American political indifference to the Government of our country,” said the bishops.

In June, Mr Trump said that if he became president he would build a “great, great wall” on the border and accused Mexico of “sending rapists” to the US.

“Those who think that Donald Trump is just a loudmouth are wrong. His belligerence has already done great damage,” said the bishops.
