Francis meets Kirchner for fifth time as Pope

Pope Francis has received the Argentine President, Cristina Kirchner, for a fifth time since he took office, in a meeting that lasted almost two hours, writes Hannah Roberts.

He received the Argentine leader in an office in Paul VI Hall on Sunday, the day after his return from Sarajevo, for one hour and 45 minutes, far more than the time allotted to other world leaders.

Afterwards Mrs Kirchner said she felt “illuminated”. “It was a very warm meeting. We were chatting about all the problems in the world and the region [of Latin America],” she said. “We also spoke about the arms industry, which has an incentive for conflicts to arise and not be resolved.”
