Keep talking to counter radical Islam


Delegates AT a gathering on interreligious relations in Europe have urged their bishops’ conferences to step up dialogue with Muslims in reaction to the ­growing radicalisation of a ­minority of Muslim youth, writes Tom Heneghan.

At a meeting in Switzerland organised by the Council of European Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE), they said Second Vatican Council teaching on respect for other faiths must “be more widely received” by Catholics.

Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, head of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, said a small but growing number of Muslim leaders see the need to interpret the Qur’an critically to adapt to life in Europe.
