Council disallows Catholic views on health board


A Catholic School Board trustee and nurse of 45 years’ experience has been denied a seat on the Toronto Public Health Board because of her Catholic views, writes Peter Kavanagh.

Angela Kennedy was nominated by the Civic Appointments Committee, but a groundswell of objections forced a Toronto city council vote and her appointment was defeated 20-17. She was denied a seat because of her views on HPV vaccinations for girls in their early teens (the HPV virus is easily spread by sexual activity), homosexuality and abortion.
