Fr John Dear, a US Catholic priest, peace activist and columnist for the US-based National Catholic Reporter has been dismissed from the Jesuit order, which says he was “obstinately disobedient” to its directives.
Fr Dear, who has amassed some 75 arrests for civil disobedience, was a Jesuit for 32 years.
The dismissal decree is signed by the order’s superior general in Rome, Fr Adolfo Nicolás, and dated 19 June 2013.
