A new free app was launched on Monday to encourage Christians to share their faith.

The Isaiah 61 Movement – or i61m – was designed by Christians Against Poverty founder Dr John Kirkby CBE and his team.

The app will ask new users questions such as “How many non-Christian friends do you have?” and “How confident are you in telling people about your faith?”

From there, users can set themselves goals for sharing their faith and watch motivational videos starring Dr Kirkby.

In one video, Kirkby said: “We’re called by Jesus to go into all the world and make disciples.”

“I’ve checked: all the world includes your street, your friends, your work colleagues.”

Users can also participate in i61 Live, where Dr Kirkby will appear over Zoom to discuss users’ journeys towards sharing their faith.

The app is being launched in light of polling conducted by the Evangelical Alliance, revealing that eight in ten Christians surveyed struggle to share their religion with others.

The same polling suggested that 43 per cent of Christians do not have a significant number of friends outside their faith, and that 25 per cent are dissuaded from sharing their faith due to fear of rejection.

Over 2,000 Christians were polled during this research.

Head of Operations at i61m Lisa Robertson, 57, told The Tablet: “A lot of Christians operate in their Christian bubbles”.

“We address that by encouraging people to share their life, to be friends with people, to be kind to people, to care about people.”

Dr Kirkby and his wife Lizzie founded Christians Against Poverty in 1996.

Over the years, more than 500 CAP centres have opened across the UK, offering everything from expert advice for those in debt, to free jobs clubs teaching essential skills for getting employed.

The charity has also expanded its operations to the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Kirkby was inspired to design i61m after studying Isaiah 61 v 1-2, which reads “the Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news”.

The app is also partnered with the charities Stewardship and Evangelical Alliance.

I61m is available now from the App Store.
