Mary's Meals launches new campaign to raise awareness

Mary’s Meals has recorded a special message for church leaders to raise further awareness of its work to reach some of the world’s poorest children with the promise of a daily meal in school.

The short film features messages from Moses Kopurot, who manages the charity’s school feeding programme in South Sudan, and the charity’s executive director, Daniel Adams.

Mary’s Meals provides a daily meal in a place of education to more than two million hungry children in 19 countries around the world including Malawi, Zambia, Kenya, South Sudan, Ethiopia, and India.

The promise of a good meal attracts vulnerable children into the classroom where they can access an education and learn their way to a brighter future.

It is hoped the short video produced for church leaders will highlight further the charity’s work among parishioners across the UK.

Daniel Adams, executive director of Mary’s Meals, said: “During this time of Advent we thank churches and people of faith for their loving support in the year that we reached two million children every school day with our nutritious meals.

“This incredible milestone has only been made possible by prayers and generosity, as well as the commitment of our wonderful volunteers and staff around the world.

“We hope this special message we have prepared for churches across the UK will encourage others to be part of this wonderful mission as we keep striving to reach the next hungry child waiting for Mary's Meals.”

The work of Mary’s Meals began in 2002 with the feeding of 200 children at a Malawian primary school. Now more than two million children enjoy the nutritious daily meals, served by local volunteers who are determined to help the next generation to build a brighter future.

The charity’s growth is fuelled by countless acts of kindness from people from all walks of life. Its school feeding programme has continued to expand and reaches out to children in the greatest need, often working with local partner organisations in more remote or challenging areas.

Since the beginning, prayer has propelled the charity’s mission forward. With more than 58 million primary-age children out of school around the world, the charity said it hopes, with the continued goodness and generosity of people, to continue reaching the next hungry child waiting for Mary’s Meals.

Every year, churches across the UK also invite volunteers for Mary’s Meals to join with them in sharing the Mary’s Meals story.
