More than five million people turned out in downtown Quiapo district in Manila on Wednesday to honour a life-size statue of Christ known as the Black Nazarene. The life-size statue of Jesus was carved from dark wood in Mexico in the 16th century in Mexico and taken to the Philippines in 1606. Here, devotees pull the rope from the Black Nazarene. Many believe that the statue, and the attendant rope, have healing powers.
