CTS bookshop to close

The Catholic Truth Society’s (CTS) much-loved bookshop in the shadow of Westminster Cathedral in Victoria, London, is to close down on 31 January next year, writes Ruth Gledhill.

The CTS bookshop is currently running a sale offering 40 per cent off all stock including Christmas cards, Advent candles and icons.

The closure comes after recent celebrations marking the 90th anniversary of the bookshop, and the 150th anniversary of the CTS itself. Before the bookshop was set up, CTS books were distributed by street trolleys, or sold at the backs of churches.

CTS publisher Fergal Martin told The Tablet that the lease is due for renewal and the likely new rent “would just be impossible for us”. Currently the shop breaks even. A search for other premises proved unsuccessful.
