The former Archbishop of Birmingham was due to apologise for the Church's safeguarding failures
Cardinal Vincent Nichols will not give evidence at the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse on Tuesday after being taken ill during a Remembrance Sunday Mass at Westminster Cathedral.
The Cardinal, who was Archbishop of Birmingham from 2000-2009, was due to attend a hearing into abuse in his former archdiocese in London on Tuesday afternoon.
He was expected to apologise for Church failings around safeguarding.
This afternoon Mr Richard Horwell QC told the hearing that the Cardinal would be unable to attend due to ill health.
Counsel to Jacqueline Carey said the next available date to hear his evidence would be 13 December.
