Catholic and gay


 
Various voices were heard from the gay community (“Love in a changing climate”, 7 November) which were moving and do, indeed, deserve a hearing. There is a deepening awareness that a homosexual orientation is not a casual choice. This was not understood in the past, and homosexual behaviour was rejected as temple prostitution, pederasty or deliberate immorality. What of those who are created this way, who form committed partnerships and grow closer to one another with the passing of the years? The voices were real but rather one-sided. Where is the struggle with what to make of their orientation and the teaching of the Church? Gay Catholics need to ask themselves questions, as do “the other side”.
