We want to be heard


 
 The debate on married priests is a debate that needs to be had by everybody in the Catholic Church: the Bishops Conference of England and Wales, priests – celibate and married – and as John Howes (Letters, 8 August) rightly pointed out, the laity. It seems to me that the debate has been mainly driven by retired bishops and some priests. Not much from the laity.I was enthused to read Fr Peter Cornwell’s letter (8 August) who shares with your readers his living experience of acceptance as a married priest within the Catholic Church by fellow (celibate) priests and laity. And his point about a “collaborative model of ministry” is so well put.As our Church leaders remain silent on the matter, I would like to suggest The Tablet organise an open forum in Lond
