Ireland’s abortion law


 
I found Conor Gearty’s conclusions to an otherwise interesting article disappointing and depressing (“Layers of conflicting truths”, 19 October). His sole concern appears to be with “the many thousands of women who vote with their feet” to get abortions in the UK. What about the innocent babies in their wombs who never get a chance of life? What about their human rights? What about the tens of thousands of women, some in circumstances similar to those who opt for abortion, who bring their children to term? They take on lifelong commitments to their children that often leave them vulnerable to poverty, because they are pro the life of the child that has come into existence in their womb.
