It was good to read Rosie Harper’s article (“Preparing for the dying of the light”, 23 May) about helping people talk about the “last taboo” of death. We should know about the rise of the “Death Cafe’”, now quite widespread in North America and Europe. At a Death Cafe people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea, and discuss death. The aim is to offer an opportunity to increase awareness of death with a view to helping make the most of their (finite) lives. A local friendly cafe is privately hired for the evening and the venue and details are published in advance on the Death Cafe website. Usually 10 or 20 people turn up.
