Ignored again


 
It was good to learn, last weekend, that Bishop Richard Moth has been appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton. It was less good to be an interested lay person in the diocese during the six months of waiting for the appointment. Information on the due process was not readily available, nor was there any indication that the felt needs and aspirations of the people of the diocese were being listened to and understood. The clericalised and secretive appointment-making process does nothing to build the confidence of the laity, still only allowed to participate by praying – and paying.A Church proud of a social teaching built on solidarity and subsidiarity would surely benefit from practice of its own principled message in its own internal management?(DR) Tony McCaffr, Ash
