Tolerance at risk


 
Aid to the Church in Need’s recent report on religious freedom (News, 8 November) makes grim reading.Few mainstream religions can feel much pride about their records on religious toleration or freedom. However, in our world today, Islam would appear to be the religion that is the least tolerant and most violent. Whether it be IS, the appalling apostasy laws in many Islamic states or the dreadful blasphemy laws of Pakistan, it is quite clear we are not just considering a small, radicalised minority. Indeed, in this country I have had to deal with the fears of some of my Muslim students who were concerned about their families and communities finding out about their interest in Christianity or Humanism.
