Flawed intervention


 
I read your leader (“A clear case for UK air strikes”, 27 September) with real disappointment and sadness.The actions of Isis are barbaric, and most of all to the people of Iraq and Syria. But while Western hostage deaths are awful and wrong, they do not justify this intervention, and the political grandstanding of the Prime Minister, his Deputy and the Leader of the Opposition. Isis will not be defeated by UK air strikes but by action within the region that addresses the issues of the people and brings to an end the inter-religious factionalism. I have yet to hear a plan from Westminster that will deal with any of the real issues, but do see gesture politics at its best.
