I am quite appalled that you have given space in The Tablet to George Osborne (“Symbols of our shared history”, 26 April) to boast about his paltry allocation of £20 million for the upkeep of cathedrals. This is a man who has quite deliberately, and quite unnecessarily, chosen to drive hundreds of thousands of poor people into destitution while protecting the interests of the well-off.
