The leadership of the Church that claims foundation by Jesus Christ needs to heed his instructions. Jesus died for all and it is wrong to use his sacrifice as a sanction. He also expressed his wish that all Christians be united. It is hard to believe that he would have the Eucharist refused to anybody who genuinely sought its grace.
The Catholic bishops of America should reflect well before taking further their stance on presidential access to the sacrament, just as the church leaders should follow Christ’s will in the matter of access to the Eucharist by sincere remarried people and those of other Christian traditions. Open the windows and knock down barriers.
