The publication of the independent report on child abuse within the Catholic Church has certainly raised awareness. I don’t think I can ever remember such anger among our generally compliant laity.
Discussing this with fellow parishioners, reading the excellent editorials and numerous letters in your thoughtful journal, and listening to a wide range of Catholics in the media reinforces how united is the demand for change.

The laity will shrug their shoulders and carry on as before. They will still have no real role in decision-making. The bishops will continue to meet as an exclusive all male club, and the cardinal will still be there. In his own words: “So on we go”. But where are we going?
