Topic of the week: Getting ready for Covid Advent

With churches closed for the immediate future, the signs of the times are not good for those in our dioceses and parishes entrusted with preparing this year’s Advent and Christmas liturgies. We do not know what Covid restrictions will be like in the coming weeks, and I hope and pray that in this impending time of great silence our bishops and pastoral planners will prepare for the various scenarios we might encounter as we seek to gather and welcome the infant Jesus into our homes.
Will we be able to avail ourselves of the Sacrament of Reconciliation or realistic alternatives? What about Advent candles and wreaths and prayer services for our homes? What about suitable online Advent liturgies? Can we have some online instructions on homemade cribs?

How will we support the hungry, the lonely and the homeless over Christmas? How do we ensure that this year’s Christmas dues meet the financial needs of clergy as they suffer financially in church lockdowns? How can we show our clergy how much we love and appreciate them?
