Well done Richard Leonard SJ (5 October) for having the courage to speak with uncompromising truth regarding the attacks upon Pope Francis.

We all struggle to leave our comfort zones, faithful followers and critics alike, but we should be proud of the example of our courageous and remarkable Pope Francis in his efforts to revitalise the Church to meet the needs of all people, and our planet.

Our churches, schools, universities and other institutions should be praying hard for the success of the Amazon synod and all it represents, keeping gospel values at the heart of our lives, as the Pope urges. We truly have to come to terms with more simple lifestyles, as some parishes, schools and individuals are trying to do. We need to start now, as these matters are both practical and spiritual and we do not have time on our side.
