I am a retired member of the court of appeal whose connection with Ampleforth goes back to 1948, when I began as a pupil. I was happy, so my two sons were also educated there. We know dreadful things were done and convictions ensued. What troubles me is the treatment of Abbot Cuthbert Madden.
