Catholic ethos underpins the strength of our schools (Letters, 4 January). It also leads directly to our advantageous admission arrangements. Each school’s Catholic ethos evolves directly from the teachings of the Church which celebrate the sanctity of marriage and the strength of the family. It follows that Catholic schools, by giving first priority to baptised Catholics, will enrol a higher proportion of children, relative to their adjacent schools, from stable two-parent backgrounds. Intake balance is crucial to the success of any school. Catholic schools have the potential to better their neighbouring community schools/academies on account of the faith of their parent body.We have been trapped into defending our position by responding to the secular agenda.
