Topic of the week: What happened to our parish?

Not sure where Evelyn Nicholson got her facts from when claiming that the people of Ledbury were very grateful to have a Latin Mass (Letters, 11 September). There has been a Latin Mass in Ledbury since Fr Adrian arrived (six years or longer), at 9 a.m. on one Sunday each month, with few, if any Ledbury parishioners present.

We parishioners have been objecting to the manner in which Fr Adrian brought in wholesale changes to our parish Masses, with no consultation or discussion, when churches reopened for services. Weekday Masses were stopped and replaced by Fr Adrian saying “Private Latin Masses” (his words) with no parishioners, which he did all through lockdown, although this has been changed recently to bring in an English Mass on Wednesday. At the same time we were told that our Sunday Mass would be moved from 10.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. and that a Latin Mass would be celebrated each Sunday at 11.30 a.m. (The “prime time” as boasted in the Latin Mass Society magazine). We have never objected to Latin Masses being said but we just want our Sunday morning back to rekindle the very prayerful and sociable parish that we once had.
