Topic of the week: Many ways to be a Catholic


 

It was with disappointment that I read Austen Ivereigh’s article (“The Mass that divides”, 4 September). That some Catholics are very uncomfortable with where we are heading as a Church should be no surprise.

People travelling from three counties weekly to attend a Latin Mass shows a commitment to a tradition which still obviously feeds their identity as a faithful remnant. To begin guilt-tripping these hungry sheep by implying that it is bought at the cost of the life of a thriving parish is insufficiently nuanced. There are and have always been many ways to be a Catholic.
