Topic of the week: Parishes at odds over Latin Mass

Austen Ivereigh’s article (“The Mass that divides”, 4 September) relates the case of the Catholic parish in Ledbury, where the Traditional Latin Mass is “attended by up to 40 people driving in from across three counties”.

My local joint parishes have celebrations of Mass according to the Vetus Ordo at regular intervals. I am told by a friend who attends them that about half of the congregation are not local parishioners. This seems to me to give a distorted view of how popular the Traditional Latin Mass is and to contravene the spirit of Pope Benedict’s concession, that these events should take place only if a stable group within the parish requests it.
